Liskeard & District Museum

Liskeard and District Museum

NOW CLOSED FOR WINTER - Open again February 2018. Liskeard is an ancient Cornish town with a fantastic museum.

Liskeard museum holds a fantastic collection of iconic toys from the past such as James Bond's Golden Gun and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Probably the largest collection in the area! The museum is also part of the World Heritage Site for Mining. Displays include mining and geological artefacts. Explore the development of the town from Mesolithic settlers to the present time. Please follow on Facebook and Twitter to see our progress in developing the new exhibitions.

  • World Heritage Site

From 1700 to 1914, the metal mining industry played a vital role in transforming our way of life. Tin and lead are just two of the minerals which were mined in this area.

  • Mining and Geology

Visit the Daniel Gumb Room to see the story of the tin, silver copper and other amazing minerals

  • Local People

Explore local characters and trades from the past. Learn about Emily Hobhouse who changed the lives of many during the Boer War.

  • The Plastic Age

Working with artist Rob Arnold in 2017 the museum looked at impact of plastic on our environment

  • Tin Toys

Toys were not always made of plastic. We have an extensive collection of the history of toys at the museum.
