MUSEUM OF WITCHCRAFT AND MAGIC MANAGERS DELIVER TALK TO ST BREWARD HISTORY SOCIETY
Museum of Witchcraft and Magic

Last March, Peter and Judith Hewitt (co-managers of the Museum) delivered a brief talk at the Cornwall Association of Local Historian’s AGM in Newquay.  The theme of the AGM was “Whatever the Weather” and a call for papers was put out asking for weather themed talks.  They submitted one on “Witchcraft and the Weather”.  It was well received and led to a lot of invites to speak at local history societies in Cornwall (and Devon).  A talk was delivered at Lifton History Society in November and a second talk was delivered to St Breward History Society on Wednesday 25th January 2017.

The talk was a virtual tour of the Museum (well a powerpoint with photos of the Museum on it with Judith and Peter explaining the displays) with certain objects in each gallery “in focus”.  We also took a few objects along for people to have a look at.

We were delighted with the enthusiasm of the audience (of about 30 people) and spent over an hour talking to them and answering their questions.  We were particularly pleased as so many people said they would be visiting the Museum in the near future.  So many Cornish residents haven’t actually visited the Museum and we are really happy to have the chance to reach out to them.  One couple both worked in Boscastle for ten years but hadn’t ever set foot inside the Museum but they promised they would now (we hope they will!)

We received this lovely email from the History Group Secretary:

Dear Judith and Peter

Thank you very much indeed for coming to talk to St Breward History Group last week.  I think you drew one of the biggest audiences we have had in recent months, including several new faces, and we all found it so interesting.  I have to confess that I haven’t been to the Museum yet but you have persuaded me to do so in the near future!

Thank you once again.

The group donated some money to the Museum for our time and thanked us profusely which was very kind.

Our next talk is in St Tudy later this year.  If you would like to arrange for a talk to be held at a society or group that you run please contact Judith at the Museum (museumwitchcraft@aol.com) and we will try our best to be there.
