Our speaker is the ever popular Kingsley Rickard and his illustrated talk is about “Mine Buildings of Cornwall”. It was inspired by the Smoking chimneys project a few years ago when fires were lit in the mine stacks surrounding Carn Brea to recreate the appearance of the days when the mines were  all working. The project was a great success but the questions it raised from the viewing public showed a lack of understanding of what the buildings were for. Not only the obvious engine houses, but there are many other buildings in Cornwall that would not appear to have anything to do with mining – hence the presentation.
