Newquay Heritage Archive and Museum

Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum provides a number of themed exhibitions relating to Newquay and Cornwall's historical and cultural heritage together with a variety of general displays and exhibitions. We have a large archive of historical information relating to Newquay for researchers.

Exhibits include interpretation boards recording the history of Newquay from the Stone Age to the present time with particular emphasis on the 19th century port, fishing industry, the lifeboat and the development of tourism. Our associated group 'Newquay Association for Cornish Heritage' has a large number of Cornish related books together with displays of maps and other items of Cornish interest.

  • Souvenir Beach Hut

    Newquay Old Cornwall Society. When the mineral railway started running passenger services in 1876, Newquay became a popular holiday destination. By 1893 postcards of Newquay were showing bathing huts, like this souvenir china miniature.

  • The Pentire neckring

    This is an exact replica of the Romano-British 1st century Pentire neckring discovered in Newquay. It is available to view as part of an ongoing archaeological display at Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum. Other items are also available to view on a rotational basis.

Admission & prices

Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum - Located in central Newquay adjacent to the Bus Station and opposite the bottom of the St Georges Road car park. The archive & museum has FREE admittance, but a donation would be most appreciated as we rely entirely on the generosity of supporters.

Trenance Cottages - We have a room with items of general and Newquay related interest in addition to that provided throughout Trenance Cottages, which has a reconstructed 19th century cottage showing how life was lived at home in the 19th century. This reopens from 7th April 2017, but is available at other times by special request.

Dairyland Museum - Admission is through the DairyLand Farm World on the outskirts of Newquay and is a seasonal museum. There is charge to enter the DairyLand complex and this includes entry to probably the finest agricultural heritage museum in the South West. Within the complex The Newquay Old Cornwall Society museum is currently also hosting exhibitions with exhibits from Redruth Old Cornwall Society museum.

Entrance is on Manor Road adjacent to the piazza opposite the Lighthouse Cinema, close to Newquay Bus Station and is directly across the road from the bottom of St Georges Road car park. Access is via low stairs to the Corridor Gallery and museum room

Newquay Heritage Archive & Museum is open from Wednesday to Friday 10.30am to 3.30pm and Saturday 10.00am to 12.00 noon.

Over a period of eighty years Newquay Old Cornwall Society has been actively recording and collecting artefacts, memorabilia and ephemera relating to Newquay and the surrounding area. We have one of the finest local history archive collections in Cornwall and our objectives are:-

To collect, safeguard and make accessible artefacts, specimens, films, photographs and documents and hold these in trust for the society.

To enable the people of Newquay and visitors to the town to explore the society's collection for inspiration, research and enjoyment.
