Amazing Event Feb 22nd 2017
Two days ago our Chairman John Buckingham received a letter from an unknown person on the island of St Lucia, containing a Padstow Bank £1 bank note issued by the Rawlings family of this town in 1817.
This note was stolen from our display in 1984 and was considered lost forever. Our Chairman has checked the authenticity of the note against our photographic record image and the picture (taken from our original exhibit) that was published in local historian’s Claude Berry’s book, and found to be identical to our missing exhibit, even down to hand written notes on the reverse face.
The amazing thing it has returned home exactly 200 years after its date of issue
