Falmouth Art Gallery is family friendly and free, and one of the leading art galleries in the South West: the town's art collection features works by major artists including Edward Burne-Jones, Charles Napier Hemy, Alfred Munnings and Henry Scott Tuke. We also house an impressive collection of automata and childrens' book illustrations.

We have gained nationwide recognition for our innovative family and community workshops and we particularly welcome visits from special needs groups. Further to this there are family workshops one Saturday a month that take inspiration from the surrounding exhibitions.

  • Along shore fishermen by Charles Napier Hemy (1841-1917)

    Charles Napier Hemy RA was one of the foremost marine painters of his generation. He settled in Falmouth in 1881 and from then on he spent his time painting sea around the Fal estuary.

  • Cherry Blossom by Michael J Strang

    Michael Strang has been a professional artist since 1973 when he graduated from Wimbledon and then Camberwell schools of art. His paintings can be found in private and public collections all over the world.

  • Marigolds at Mousehole by Martina Thomas (1924-1995)

    This work is one of six oil paintings by Martina Thomas in the collection at Falmouth Art Gallery, given by her husband, the artist and ceramicist Eric James Mellon. Martina Thomas was a regular summer visitor to West Cornwall.

  • The Lady of Shalott - from the poem by Tennyson by John William Waterhouse RA (1849-1917):

    This study is one of our most famous paintings. During his lifetime Waterhouse was acclaimed as one of England's finest artists, and his paintings of the Lady of Shalott remain archetypal Victorian images.

Falmouth Art Gallery shop sells a variety of stock including jewellery, ceramics, textiles, automaton, prints, books and cards. The majority of which are made by Cornish craftspeople.
We also stock a selection of affordable gifts for children and art and craft sets for those rainy days.

The majority of works from our permanent collection are available as a postcard and can also be ordered as prints.

The gallery operates an open store policy during Monday - Friday opening hours, whereby a member of staff can take you into the stores to view an art work (if it is accessible) that is not on show.
