Gerrans Parish Heritage & Information Centre

Gerrans Parish Heritage and Information Centre

The history of the parish is illustrated with displays depicting Farming through the Ages, the Fishing Industry, Education, Domesday Book entries, the Manors, World Wars, Coastguards, Churches, Chapels and much more. Illustrated by photographs, tithe maps, documents, parish records and other artefacts.

For those interested in family history there is a database containing the baptisms/christenings, marriages and deaths/burials of more than 11,500 parishioners. Indexes are also available for St Gerrans and St Anthony parishes covering, marriages, burials and a churchyard plan. The 1841 - 1901 census has also been indexed.. Access to the Gerrans Online Parsh Clerk website is available. To commemorate the centenary of Armistice Day in November 1918, this year’s exhibition is entitled Revisiting – 'Our Boys Went To War’. In addition to covering much of the 2014 exhibition, information has been added wherever possible on the careers of many of those who returned to the parish. Additionally, there are interesting extracts from the minute book of the Gerrans branch of the Royal British Legion. The exhibition also provides details of the service of many of these men on the Front in Belgium and France, and at sea. Photographs, anecdotes and memorabilia promise to make this an exhibition not to be missed.
