Learning at the Leach Pottery
Resources available
Schools Work
The Leach Pottery offers workshops across all Key Stages.
Key Stages 1 to 3 - include practical hands-on activities such as making a coil pot or tile, sketching, floor puzzles, a workshop trail and watching pots being made on the wheel. Pupils can explore the old pottery with its original kilns and equipment as well as the new museum and exhibition area. Visits provide the basis for a cross curricula project incorporating elements of heritage, geography, science, literacy, maths, local history, myths and legends and art and design.
Key Stages 4 & 5 - we can arrange bespoke tours and activities including raku firings
For details and costs please contact Education Officer, Amanda Brier amanda@leachpottery.com 01736 799703 (part time so please leave a message).
Clay Days
Join us for family friendly creative sessions at the Leach Pottery, where your child can enjoy hands-on making activities during the school holidays.
Ages 6 - 12, £6 per child per workshop, or £5 for multiple bookings. Parents get messy for free!
One hour sessions will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during school holidays at 10.30am and 2pm.
Only 12 places on each workshop, so booking and pre-payment is required to secure your place.
Short Courses - Outline
Whether you are professional potter, student, a keen amateur or a complete beginner, an intensive few days working in the environment of Bernard Leach's own studio within the historic Leach Pottery is a unique and rarefied experience. This is an opportunity to brush up on techniques, explore new approaches, or just have dedicated time and space to develop your own practice.
