Falmouth Art Gallery is now officially the home of the RCPS Tuke Collection, a collection of 280 paintings by the prestigious Falmouth artist Henry Scott Tuke. The works have been gifted to the gallery on a 5 year long term loan agreement by the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society.
The gallery is delighted that John F. Tonkin, the former Co-Curator of the RCPS Tuke Collection, has agreed to become the collection’s Honorary Curator. John has always been a great friend and supporter of the gallery and brings with him a wealth of irreplaceable knowledge about Tuke and the RCPS Tuke Collection.
Staff at the gallery are happy to offer store tours of the collection, please call 01326 313 863 if you are making a special visit. Plans are going ahead to digitise the entire collection and make it available to view on the gallery’s website www.falmouthartgallery.com The gallery also hopes to make the collection accessible to a wider audience by developing a touring exhibition.
The RCPS Tuke Collection numbers 280 works and is thought to be the largest collection of Tuke’s work in public ownership. Originally a gift of 252 works in 1965, it continues to be added to by way of gifts, loans and bequests.
Falmouth Art Gallery is open from Monday – Friday 10 am – 5 pm, admission free. For information please contact Donna Williams on 01326 313863 or info@falmouthartgallery.com
